Chiropractic adjustment

An adjustment is hands-on work on the spine and other joints, done by a licensed chiropractor. It is for adults who want this care, with the technique adapted to each person.

The doctor explains what they will do before each step. You can say no, or ask us to stop, at any point.

What to expect

  • What a visit includes

A conversation, a short exam and, if the doctor recommends it and you agree, an adjustment.

    • We explain what we are going to do

    • You can stop the visit whenever you want

    • An itemized receipt

  • How long and how often

A visit takes as long as the exam and the care need. The doctor suggests a plan after the exam and changes it with you as you go. We do not promise a number of visits.

  • What we do not claim

We do not promise results, and results vary. We do not say that an adjustment treats any disease.

  • Risks

Soreness in the area after an adjustment is common and usually short. Rare serious problems have been reported after neck adjustments, so the doctor explains the risks before any neck adjustment, and you can say no.

  • Through your insurance, if it applies, or on your own. Either way you get an itemized receipt and, if you do not use insurance, a written estimate before we start.

Questions about this care

Will the adjustment hurt?

Most people feel pressure, not pain, and some feel sore afterward. The doctor adapts the technique to you, and we stop whenever you ask.

Is chiropractic care safe?

Every kind of care has risks. Soreness after an adjustment is common and usually short. Rare serious problems have been reported after neck adjustments, so we explain the risks first. If you have a sudden severe headache or neck pain, new weakness or numbness, chest pain, or loss of bladder or bowel control, call 911 or see a physician first.

How many visits will I need?

The doctor suggests a plan after the exam and changes it with you as you go. We do not promise a number of visits, and you can stop at any time.

When you decide, come and meet us

  • A sudden severe headache or neck pain, dizziness, trouble speaking or seeing, new weakness or numbness, numbness in the groin or saddle area (between the legs and buttocks), or new bladder or bowel trouble needs emergency care now. Call 911 or go to an emergency room.
